Acre (Akko) >> Travel Guide

Acre Old CityOn a small picturesque headland on the  northern coast of Israel, sits The Old
Walled City of Acre.

Acre's unique charm coupled with a rich and colourful 4,000 year old history makes it a magnet for all visitors to Israel.

There’s something for everyone in the old city of Acre (pronounced Akko), it’s full with interesting little surprises and well worth a few hours of your leisure time while on vacation in Israel.

Take a stroll through the colourful markets, allow your nose to find the enchanting spice vendors almost hidden except for the divine smell of their wares.

Pop into a bakery selling famously delicious sweet Arabic treats and purchase a selection to nibble on over coffee in one of the many street cafes or join the locals in line at Sa-id's resaurant for a generous serving of argueably the best hummous on the planet.

Explore the many beautifully preserved ancient structures like the 13th century secret templers tunnel, the crusaders castle, ancient underground turkish bath, or the striking El Jazzar mosque.

Or wander down to the old fisherman’s port and marina and find a spot to relax. Lined with quaint little cafes and restaurants serving fresh seafood, ice cold beers, authentic arabic coffee and many other culinary delights you are sure to find a spot with your name on it ...  then simply sit back, enjoy the sound of the ocean ... and watch the world go by.

Getting there: There are trains from Haifa, tel aviv, daily tours from most major cities.

Why Go: To explore Old City Of Acre’s  delightfully preserved ancient historical structures dating back 4,000 years  - it’s a designated UNESCO world heritage site.

To eat absolutely scrumptious hummous at Saied's hummous restaurant – just ask any local where it is.
